FRANCE Pyrenees ariege plateau de beille col de latrape col de la core tradition guided col de la core MOUNTAINS riding
Ariegeoise Cyclosportive
The “Ariegeoise” is one of the biggest and better know Cyclosportives (GranFondos) in France. Approx 5000 people take part each year, and 2016 will be the 21st running of the event.
Our base for this trip is a traditional Pyrenean house in a quiet village in the heart of the Pyrenees National Park. This is the ideal location from which to start our stunning and challenging rides, as well as being a relaxing location for an evening BBQ and wine with friends. We are also perfectly located with easy access to the start and finish of the Ariegeoise by car.
Daily rides throughout the week will take you through some stunning mountain scenery along peaceful roads and on some of the Tour de France mountains you’ve seen on TV, getting you ready for your big event at the end of the week. There is a Bar-Restaurant within walking distance, and a large yard in which to relax after each ride.
We will be on hand and provide our expert advice and experience for your week or riding, and will be there to provide on and off the bike support for the Ariegeoise itself.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Sun 19 June Arrival: 40-60km ride
We will pick you up at the Toulouse-Blagnac or Carcassonne airport, or meet you at our base if you choose to drive or rent a car. We will get settled in, and go for a short introduction ride if we have time.
Day 1: Mon 20 June: 55km Col d’Agnes
After a relaxed breakfast in the court-yard, we’ll head out on a loop that will take us over the Col d’Agnes that is frequently used in the Tour de France, this is quite a steep climb, and although “only” a 55km ride, it’s fairly tough. We can stop and have a coffee or beer at the lake on the way down to the house.
Day 2: Tue 21 june 125km or 65km Port de l’Hers, Plateau de Beille, Col de Port
Today we have 2 options. We can either do a long ride of 125km that will take us up the Port de l’Hers, then up the famous Plateau de Beille climb, before coming back down the Plateau de Beille and returning home via the Col de Port making it 125km round trip with 3 big climbs. The Plateau de Beille is the final climb of the XXL Ariegeoise, so you may want to take a look at it before the big day.
This evening we will walk to the restaurant at the edge of town and enjoy a well deserved meal of local cuisine.
Day 3: Wed 22 June 40-60km ride
We will have a slightly shorter ride today and count this as a recovery ride, making the most of it to enjoy everything this local area has to offer. We want to get in some good training in preparation for the Ariegeoise, but without overtiring you before the big day. So a recovery day will go a long way to helping you be ready for Saturday.
Day 4: Thu 23 June 145km Col –Latrappe, La Core, Saraille
Today we will take our time over breakfast, before our second big day in the mountains. This ride is a Tour de France classic and the mountains have been features numerous times in the famous race. It will be another good training day for you to log some hours in the mountains and prepare both physically and mentally for Saturday. We will of course take our time and enjoy the scenery, stop for lunch on the way and return home for a well deserved drink and dinner.
Day 5: Fri 24 June 40km Easy day
Tomorrow is the big day, so today we will have a sleep in, a relaxed breakfast and head out for a short recovery ride on the Saraille Loop. This we will make the most of it to visit the start, pick up our numbers and get signed in; you will have plenty of time to ready your bike and yourself so that you are ready to go tomorrow morning. .
Day 6: Sat 25 June Ariegeoise
We will get an early start as we head over to Tarascon Sur Ariege for the start of the cycloSportive. You will ride the distance you have chosen. We will be on hand to provide as much support as possible. The organizers provide plenty of support, but we will aim to actually ride with you as much as possible.
Day 7: Sun 26 June Departure
It’s been a good solid week of riding and relaxing. We will transfer you to the airport in Toulouse for your return trip
